平叙文、疑問文の間接話法への書き換えはわかっているけれども、and や because などを使った重文や複文ではどのように間接話法へ書き換えるのか悩んだことはありませんか。

重文の話法の転換のしかたを確認していきます。
等位接続詞の重文
平叙文＋等位接続詞（and, but など）～ の重文を用いた直接話法の文は、【等位接続詞＋that】を用いて間接話法の文に書き換えられます。
代名詞の変化、時制の一致など、間接話法の基本的なルールはコチラ。
例文
・She said to me, “I am sleepy and I can’t get out of bed.”
→ She told me (that) she was sleepy and [that she] couldn’t get out of bed.
（彼女は眠いし、ベッドから出られないと私に言いました。）
※ (that) [that she] は省略可能ですが、後半のthat はあまり省略しません。
・He said, “I visited my parents and they looked very happy.”
→ He said that he had visited his parents and that they had looked very happy.
（彼が両親のもとを訪れたら[帰省したら]、彼らはとてもうれしそうだった、と彼が言っていました。）
※ and 前後の主語（he と they）が異なるため、they は省略できません。
命令文＋and/or
命令文＋and/or ～ の文は、if を用いて間接話法に書き換えることができます。

・My teacher said to me, “Practice hard, and your English will improve.”
→ My teacher told me that if I practiced hard my English would improve.
（毎日練習すれば私の英語は上達すると、先生が私に言いました。）
・My mother said to me, “Hurry up, or you will be late.”
→ My mother told me that if I didn’t hurry up, I would be late.
（急がないと遅刻しますよ、と母が私に言いました。）
複文の話法の転換 コツと例文
複文の直接話法を間接話法に書き換えるとき、語順は大きく変わりません。従位接続詞（because, since, after, before など）が用いられている文はそのまま用いられます。接続詞の後の that は不要です。
・He said, “She is absent, because she is sick .”
→ He said that she was absent, because she was sick.
（彼女は病気でお休みだと彼が言いました。）
・He said to me, “Do you know what time the party starts?”
→ He asked me if I knew what time the party started.
（彼はパーティーが何時に始まるか私に尋ねました。）
一般疑問文では if や whether を加えて間接話法の文を作ります。

伝達動詞や発言内容の代名詞の変更と、時制の一致も必要に応じて行います。（従属節の時制が変わらないときもあります。）
