too～toの文の作り方、so~that…can’tの書き換えで注意すべきポイント、enough～toとso~thatの書き換えについても解説します。

不定詞 too～toの文の作り方
too ～ to …の形で「～すぎて～できない」という意味を表すことができます。
「～すぎて、…できない」→ too ～ to …
(例) I was too tired to walk.（私は疲れすぎて歩けなかった。）
I was too tired → 私は疲れすぎていた、あまりに疲れていた（too は「非常に、～し過ぎ」の意味）
to walk → 歩くには（不定詞なので動詞の原形が続く）
直訳だと「私は歩くには疲れすぎていた」ですが、ふつう「私は疲れすぎて歩けなかった」のように不定詞の部分を否定文のように訳します。
forを使うtoo～toの文
不定詞の主語が文の主語と異なるとき、to～の前にforを使って主語を置きます。
「～すぎて、(人)が…できない」→ too ～ for (人) to …
(例) It was too hot for me to sleep.（暑すぎて私は眠れませんでした。）
sleep（眠る）のは it ではなくて「私」なので、for me を使って主語を示しています。to ～ の直前に置くようにします。
so~that…can’tへの書き換え
too～toの文は、so～that…can’tの文を使って書き換えることができます。thatの後は主語＋動詞～と続けるようにします。
※ can’t を使わずに普通の否定文を使うこともありますが、中学英語では can’t が使われることが多いので、ここではcan’t を使う書き換えのみ扱います。
【too～to→so~that…can’t 書き換え例文】
My father is too busy to watch TV.（私の父は忙しすぎて、テレビも見られない。）
→My father is so busy that he can’t watch TV.
too～to → so~that…can’t の書き換えでは、too と soの直後の単語は一致します。
ただし that の直後は to の直後と同じではありません。主語と can’t を入れる必要があります。
特に too～to の文で to の前に for がないときは、文の主語と同じ主語（の代名詞）を that の直後に置きます。
She was too busy to have lunch.（彼女は忙しすぎて昼食をとれませんでした。）
→ She was so busy that she couldn’t have lunch.
こちらの文は過去形のため、cant’ の過去形 couldn’t を使って書き換えています。
too～for…toの文の書き換え
too～for…toの文では、主語と不定詞の主語が一致しないため、so～that…can’tの文に書き換えるとき for の直後の人を that の直後に置く主語にします。
It was too hot for Keiko to sleep.（暑すぎてケイコは眠れませんでした。）
→ It was so hot that Keiko couldn’t sleep.
It was too hot for me to sleep.（暑すぎて私は眠れませんでした。）
→ It was so hot that I couldn’t sleep.
too～for…to の文では me だったのが、that の後では I になっているところにも注意してください。for の後が代名詞の場合は特に注意してください。
it / them が必要になる書き換え
too～to → so~that…can’t の書き換えるとき、it や them を補わなければいけないパターンもあります。
The question is too difficult for her to answer.（その問題は難しすぎて彼女には答えられない。）
→ The question is so difficult that she can’t answer it.
The question is so difficult that she can’t answer. だと誤りとされます。
The question is too difficult for her to answer. は主語が The question のみで1つの文になっており、itを入れなくても the question に対して answer する（答える）のがわかります。
しかしso~that…を使う文はThe question is ～と she can’t ～ の2つの文に分けられるため、何に対して answer するのかわかるように it を補う必要があります。
The questions are too difficult for her to answer.
→ The questions are so difficult that she can’t answer them.
主語が複数形なら、themを入れます。
【参考】enough to の文の書き換え
私立高の入試問題で出題されることがある、enough to と so that の書き換えについても解説しておきます。
… enought (for 人) to ～は「十分…なので（人が）～できる、（人が）～するほど…だ」の意味になります。【形容詞・副詞＋enough】の語順にも注意してください。
He was kind enough to carry my bag.（彼は私のかばんを運んでくれるほど親切だった。）
The question is easy enough for me to answer.（その問題は私に答えられるほど簡単だ。）
これらの文は、so ～ that … を使って書き換えることが可能です。
He was kind enough to carry my bag.
→ He was so kind that he carried my bag.
The question is easy enough for me to answer.
→ The question is so easy that I can answer.
enough の前にあった単語が、so の後に続くことに注意してください。（kind enough → so kind、easy enough → so easy の語順）
so ～ thatの文に書き換えるときcanはなくても良いですが、「～できる」を強調したいときなど必要に応じて入れれば良いです。

too～toとso~that…can’tの書き換え問題を解いてみましょう。一部enough toの書き換え問題（★印）もあります。
問 各文とほぼ同じ意味になるように、（ ）内に適切な単語を入れなさい。
(1) He is too tired to walk any more.
= He is （ ）tired （ ） （ ） （ ）walk any more.
答えを確認問2 It was too hot for me to sleep.
= It was （ ）hot （ ） （ ） （ ）sleep.

答えを確認まとめ
too～to の文→so～that…can’t の文の書き換えについて見てきました。to 不定詞の前に for があるときは that の後の主語が変わってくるので注意しましょう。
またtoo～to の文では動詞の後に it がなくても、so～thatの文に書き換えると it が必要になる場合もありましたね。
toの後は動詞の原形が入りますが、過去形の文では that 主語＋動詞～の動詞も過去形にする必要があります。
